I hope this bag made it home with your child last Thursday. It is filled with things for you to do over the summer. I wanted to break it down here so you would know what all it is for!
Stacked on top of this letter should have been their report card as well as a word cloud made by me and their classmates, a picture of your child and I as well as a treat!
Here I have included a summer journal. I hope you will take some time to have your child journal a little bit. If they are lacking for things to write about, feel free to use the front and back of the sheet pictured here for inspiration.
I put a Writer's Check sticker on the front of the journal. I do want to emphasize the use of capital letters and correct punctuation. Although we worked on this a LOT this year, we tend to rush through and forget those little details.
I have included a June and July activity calendar. These small activities should take a short amount of time to complete and they cover some math, science, reading and writing.
I also included a small amount of handwriting paper as well as the letter formation sheets of the handwriting program we use.
Included in the activity calendar, I ask them to write me a letter. To help with that, I included the letter template and an addressed envelope. Just add a stamp! I can't wait to hear from your child!
As they are reading, comprehension and making connections is always something we are working on getting better at. Cut this out and tape it together to help with that!
As you are going to the library this summer, check out this book list. On your child's report card, it has listed their DRA level from the end of the year. Look at that number and then use this page as a reference to find books written on the level they can read independently. Check out a book a level above to work with them at their instructional level. They will need your guidance, but this is great practice!!
I hope you find this bag useful!!
