Guided Reading

What do you value?  What do you think is important?

Beatrice's Goat, the book we've been working with all week, is a true story about a family in Uganda that receives a goat from Heifer International.  We explored the Heifer International website today to learn more about it.

We were quickly inspired to buy a goat ourselves.  I had learners all over the room saying that they wanted to go home right now and buy something to help change lives.  LOVE their passion and desires to make a difference.  We talked about how a goat is $120 and that's a lot of money for a 6 year old.  But $5 may be easier to earn and if we combined our money MAYBE we could buy one as a class.  We brainstormed some ways that we could try and earn money to buy a goat OR a water buffalo OR a flock of chickens OR anything of the animals listed on the website.  We hope you will support us in these efforts.  I would really like our learners to earn the money for this rather than be given the money.  We talked about how if this is something we are passionate about, it would be worth working for.  :)
