I show empathy when I...

Matching shoes!

Working on our spelling sorts.

Number talks...

How does matter change?

We put a REALLY COOL thermometer, it measured the temperature and tracked it through this app.  You can see the screen in the background. I airplayed the app so they could watch it on the screen.

We started with the water on the ground, it was about 77 degrees.

We put the water on the griddle (on the floor) and you can see that the screen shows that it is rising quickly.

We read this book about a boy who wants to eat a pancake for breakfast.

He has to make his own butter.  So we decided to do the same.
We added the liquid to the jars.

Then dropped in some solid salt and some marbles.

Then we shook it up!

Thermometer is still going strong.

Someone asked what would happened if we poured a little water on the griddle.  So we did it to see!

We mixed a solid...

with a liquid...

to make a liquid batter to make a solid pancake.  We talked most importantly about WHY the liquid turned into the solid and it's because of the HEAT.

We put our homemade butter on the pancakes and enjoyed our change in matter.

Ms. Kirkley came for a guidance lesson!
